The City Council split 4-3 Monday night in favor of PERC........


ELLSWORTH — The City Council split 4-3 Monday night in favor of continuing to send the city’s trash to the Penobscot Energy Recovery Co. (PERC) facility in Orrington in future years, picking it over a competing trash-to-gas facility planned for Hampden.

The Fiberight proposal, championed by the Municipal Review Committee that represents 187 towns and cities in Maine, promised lower per-ton fees to take in trash but relies on a technology not used on the same scale elsewhere in the country..............read more of the full story by Steve Fuller
